Update 25/10/2021 – The station has announced that it will be closing on 20th November 2021 unless it can get further funds to keep it going. The announcement says, “It is with a heavy heart that Hitz 983 will fall silent on November 20, 2021, at exactly 12 Midnight. This is due to a lack of funds from the owner to maintain the operation of the station. Thank you for supporting and listening to Hitz 983 for the past 5 years! We hope to be back again soon. If you wish to support Hitz 983 and to continue its operations, please consider donating to the owner’s PayPal account, all proceeds will go to maintaining the radio server. Any amount is appreciated! Thank you very much!”
The experimental FLAC stream is no longer broadcasting.
Hitz 983 is an internet radio station ‘Playing all the Hits 24/7!’ and broadcasting 64kbps and 128kbps AAC streams. Its original CD Quality Lossless FLAC stream has been discontinued and replaced with a new stream which now operates in test mode only. The station’s website has made this announcement, “FLAC Streaming – We are planning to introduce a lossless internet radio stream to Hitz 983. It will be streamed via Lossless FLAC with CD Quality audio. We are in the process on re-encoding all of our songs into lossless format to benefit and ensure high quality FLAC stream. It’s currently on testing phase and will be introduced soon.”
The station’s music format is CHR (Contemporary Hit Radio) – this is programming that focuses on playing current and recurrent popular music as determined by the top 40 music charts. The station owner is John Leo Navarro who has had a string of radio stations going back to 2010 and for those interested there is a chronology on their About Us page.
In the past there were a number of podcasts available but these were of poor quality from both an audio and editorial standpoint and the station has removed them from the site.
