95% of Top 20 albums in France are locally produced for the 3rd year in a row in 2020 and all sung in French according to SNEP, the French music industry association. Despite the unusual circumstances caused by the pandemic, there was a continued appetite for locally produced music with 80% of the Top 200 albums being produced in France (same as 2019).

This continues a trend over the past 6 years where 17 to 19 French productions have systematically featured in the Top 20 album sales. New artists are a strong feature of the charts with 46 first albums featured in the Top 200 album lists of which 38 were French productions. Ten of these new young artists have multiple entries in the chart and there are 32 female artists in the Top 200.

Two female artists appear in the Top 20 – Vitaa in duet with Slimane on the album Versus at number 1 and Angèle with Brol at number 4. These artists were already in the TOP 20 last year, along with two other female artists Lady Gaga and Aya Nakamura.

Various genres of urban music feature in the Top 200 including Ninho with 2 entries, Maes, Dadju, Nekfeu, Jul, Soprano, Hatik and PNL. Pop and rock are also well represented with ACDC coming in at No 9 after a 6 year absence in the French charts. Even Jazz and Classical Music are dominated by French productions.
