Streaming now makes up 71.5% of the market

Dutch music industry increases 5.5% in 2018 totalling €178 million according to NVPI Audio, the Dutch music industry association. Streaming dominates the market and now makes 71.5% of the total market compared to 63.7% in 2017.

Once again there is a mix of national and international artists who dominate the charts and contribute to the result; Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa, Frenna & Lil Kleine, Bløf, Drake, Ed Sheeran, Children for Children, Josylvio, Post Malone and newcomer Davina Michelle are some of the most successful artists of 2018.

The streaming market was worth €128.6 million in 2018. Sales of physical product fell from 54.8 to 45.4 million, with vinyl now also showing a decrease of 7.1%. Despite the fall in absolute sales, the share of vinyl in the physical market has risen from 30.7% to 34.4%. The breakdown of revenue shares by product type together with their sales value is shown in the table (in Dutch) below.
