Sonos introduces Arc smart soundbar, the Sonos Sub, the Sonos Five and announces the date when the new S2 Sonos app will be available. The Sonos Arc has support for Dolby Atmos, and multiple voice assistants and can be used to stream music, podcasts and radio when the TV is off. The Arc will be available from 10th June and cost £799. It can be pre-ordered from Sonos on their website.

Sonos Arc contains eleven high-performance drivers, including two that are upward firing for 3D audio and supports stereo, Dolby Audio 5.1 and Dolby Atmos. Listeners can refine Arc’s sound in the Sonos app with features including Speech Enhancement to further clarify vocals, Night Sound to temper loud explosions, and an update to Sonos’ Trueplay tuning technology, adjusting Arc’s acoustic profile based on the room, accounting for horizontal and vertical sound that comes with immersive sound.

The Arc is built on Sonos’ next generation S2 software platform and can be controlled from the new Sonos app, an existing TV remote, Apple AirPlay 2, and with voice using Amazon Alexa or the Google Assistant.

Sonos Sub and Sonos Five

Alongside Arc, Sonos has introduced two updates for premium sound in the home. Sonos Sub (Gen 3) and Sonos Five, replacing Play:5 (Gen 2) and bringing increased memory and faster processing power to the devices while delivering the same sound experience. The Sonos Sub will retail for £699 and the Sonos Five for £499 and both will be available from the 10th June.

New Sonos S2 app

Announced earlier in March this year, Sonos customers will be able to download the new Sonos S2 app from the 8th June. It delivers an upgraded software platform that will power the next generation of products and experiences from Sonos, including Arc, Five, and the third generation Sub. The three new products will run exclusively on the new app.

This new generation app features support for higher resolution audio technologies, such as the Dolby Atmos experience on Arc, as well as increased security and improved design for easier use. User interface updates make it even simpler to search for content, control sound, and personalize the experience with new features starting with saved room groups. All favourites, services, and settings will be saved when upgrading from the old S1 app.
