Spotify and Samsung form new partnership

‘Seamless control’ between all Samsung devices

Spotify and Samsung Announcement
Spotify CEO Daniel Ek announces new Samsung partnership

Spotify and Samsung form new partnership to give Samsung users a seamless listening experience between devices. Spotify has been named as Samsung’s new go-to music service provider offering the only full integration to Samsung devices which includes Bixby – Samsung’s premier voice solution.

In a blog posting, Spotify CEO, Daniel Ek explained the reasons behind the Spotify and Samsung integration saying, ‘We’ve studied how people use Spotify. We know that listeners stream different kinds of music at different times, in different places, and most importantly, on different devices. We think music should be easy to access on ALL of your devices—and we want it to be seamless to switch from one device to another.’

Ek explained that the partnerships would allow both companies to produce a listening experience for the user that would have been hard for them to build on their own. Spotify chose to partner with Samsung for the range of devices it offers – everything from smartphones and TVs, to tablets, speakers, and watches.

By partnering with Samsung, the two companies are in a position to produce an eco-system which can rival Apple’s offering of Apple Music, iPhone, iPad and HomePod. Samsung’s recent announcement of the Galaxy Home controlled by its voice assistant – Bixby – will provide a serious alternative to Apple’s Siri on its HomePod smart speaker.

What can users do now?

Samsung devices will come pre-configured to use Spotify and users can easily discover the Spotify app on Samsung Smart Switch. Samsung Smart TV users will soon be able to play Spotify through the SmartThings app. Multi-room availability will also be a feature. It will allow you to move from room to room, with your devices aware of your location and prompting you to effortlessly transition your listening between them.

Ek also announced that, ‘Additionally, we’re also making it easier to move playback to various hardware devices with Spotify Connect. When a user enters WiFi while listening to music on mobile with the Spotify app, they’ll be able to move playback from the mobile lock screen, instead of having to go back in the Spotify app.’

‘We believe that this significant long-term partnership will provide Samsung users across millions of devices with the best possible music streaming experience, and make discovering new music easier than ever – with even more opportunities to come.’

‘Of course, it will also help artists reach new fans. Our goal has always been to make music accessible to everyone by giving a million creative artists the opportunity to live off their art and billions of fans the opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by it.’
