Spotify Premium Duo comes to Canada, France and Japan following on from its initial pilot rollout in 2019 in Denmark, Ireland, Poland and Latin America. Spotify’s Premium Duo subscription plan is two Premium accounts for couples under one roof which offers the functionality to either listen together or separately. The plan in Canada costs CAD $12.99/month with a 1 month free trial and the plan can be cancelled anytime. The only restriction is that a couple must live at the same address to join Premium Duo.

Each person on the plan gets their own Premium account so they don’t need to share or use each other’s login details. And because they are now on separate accounts, music recommendations are tailored to their individual tastes.

If you are already an existing Premium account subscriber you can upgrade to Duo and keep all your saved music, playlists and recommendations. To join Duo sign up or login to your existing account. Invite someone you live with to join Duo by email, WhatsApp – whatever works for you. They accept the invitation at home, confirm their address, and that’s it – you’re both on Duo.

In addition to all the usual Spotify benefits, you can access Duo Mix. This is an exclusive playlist only available to Premium Duo members. It’s regularly updated for the two of you, based on your shared listening history. If you don’t want to be included in Duo Mix, you can leave anytime from your Settings.
