Audiobooks by Deezer app launched in Germany with an optimized user experience for streaming audio books and radio plays. Due to the local popularity of audiobooks, Audiobooks by Deezer for iOS and Android is initially only available on the German market and offers an optimized user experience with functions specifically for streaming audiobooks. This follows on from Deezer’s recent launch of an audiobook channel in the Netherlands suggesting that the streamer may provide audiobooks more widely across the globe.

Germany is a booming market for audiobooks. According to current streaming figures an average of almost 19% of monthly active users listen to audiobooks and radio plays. The monthly listening time for this content has increased by almost 35% per user since 2017. Deezer is responding to the high demand and is providing users of a paid subscription with the audio book app, an app that is specially tailored to the needs of audio book fans.

The Audiobooks by Deezer app is now available to download free of charge for users with a paid subscription (Deezer Premium, Family, HiFi and Student). Deezer are offering new customers a three month free trial to test Deezer Premium and will also be able to download and use the audio book app.

A study of the listening behaviour of Deezer users has shown that the 26-45 year old age group listens to the most audio books and radio plays. Users stream audiobooks, especially in the evening to fall asleep or relax. The most popular time for audiobooks is 10 p.m. and the day when the most audiobooks and plays are heard is Sunday, followed by Monday and Wednesday. Die Tribute von Panem by Suzanne Collins is the most popular of all generations. 18-25-year-olds prefer to listen to autobiographies such as Die Bitch Bibel by Katja Krasavice or MontanaBlack by Marcel Eris and Dennis Sand. Detective stories and thrillers are particularly popular with listeners aged 26 and over. Across all generations the most popular radio play is Die Drei. The episode Die Drei und der dreiäugigeTotenkopf is the most successful radio play series on Deezer.
