Following on from Microsoft’s closure of Groove Music earlier this year, the company has announced that its Groove Music iOS and Android apps will be retired on 1st December 2018. Personal music files will continue to be available in OneDrive and users can keep listening to those files and playlists with the Windows 10 Groove Music apps on PC, Xbox, or Windows Phone.

How can I play my OneDrive music on my iOS or Android device?

Microsoft offer the following advice to users with music on OneDrive:

  • Download your OneDrive music to your PC.
  • Play your music through the OneDrive app.
  • Play your OneDrive music with another streaming app.
  • Play your music with Google Play Music or iTunes Match (users will be able to migrate their playlists)

Microsoft now does not have a way to play music across all platforms and appear to be concentrating on their core operating systems.

Microsoft introduced the Groove streaming service in October 2012 originally branded as Xbox Music but closed the service down 31st December 2017. Groove Music subscribers were migrated to Spotify who were encouraged to use Spotify’s Windows 10 and Xbox apps.
