Smart book recognition comes to Audiobooks by Deezer

Smart book recognition comes to Audiobooks by Deezer with the launch of BookCatcher on Android. The app simplifies the search for an audiobook. Simply photograph a book cover with the app and the smart book recognition starts looking for an audiobook of the title. Users will need a paid for subscription (Premium, Family, HiFi, Student) and currently the Audiobook service is only available in Germany.

Typing in book titles or names of authors is now a thing of the past. Audiobook fans can activate the BookCatcher via the blue banner in the ‘Search’ tab in the Audiobooks by Deezer Android app. BookCatcher uses Google’s ML (Machine Learning) Kit to recognize text in images.

How BookCatcher works

  • Simply photograph the cover of a book with the BookCatcher app and it will search for the appropriate audiobook
  • All audiobooks recognized with BookCatcher can be played directly from the Audiobooks by Deezer app
  • Found audiobooks can also be added to your own favourites via the heart icon
  • Available to all Android users of the Audiobooks by Deezer Audiobook app (Paid subscribers in Germany only)

Claire Idelot, Head of Audiobooks Product & Tech at Deezer comments: “With the new BookCatcher feature, we offer an even easier and faster way to search for audiobooks. No matter where you discover a book, on the bookshelf with friends or on the go in the bookstore, from now on users only need to take a picture of the book cover and smart book recognition does the rest.”

BookCatcher is now available to all Android users of the Audiobooks by Deezer app. To use the new feature, the app must be updated to version 1.7.7. For further information (in German) go here.
