Deezer publishes top tracks of 2019 across the globe and introduces a personalized list of your favourite tracks in ‘My Deezer Year’ which also includes a shareable top track playlist – ‘Your 2019’. ‘Your 2019’ gives you the 50 tracks that you’ve been loving all year in a handy mix on Deezer. My Deezer Year can be found here.

Nigel Harding, our VP of Artist Marketing at Deezer, said, “Local music has completely smashed it this year! It’s been a big one for Spanish-speaking music and the world is loving English and Spanish mashup tracks. I’m sure that in 2020 other genres like J-Pop and Afrobeat will continue to define pop music tastes around the world. I’ve personally been hooked on podcasts since Serial came about. So it’s been great to see how they’re taking over the world, especially in comedy and crime.”

Worldwide ‘My Deezer Year’

Latin and K-Pop

Latin music keeps on shining and J Balvin is the most streamed global artist for the second year in a row, with Anitta also featuring in the Deezer top 10. Daddy Yankee & SNoW’s ‘Con Calma’ took third place for the highest streamed track overall, and 5 of the top 20 songs mixed Spanish with English.

BTS also continued to steal hearts outside of Korea. The boy band is not only no.1 in K-Pop but also the 9th biggest international band. Girl groups BLACKPINK and TWICE follow BTS in the K-pop charts.

Top Female Artists

Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish are the ‘girls who run the world’. Ariana had the biggest plays of all female artists, but fans have made Billie’s stunning ‘WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?’ the most played international album.

Top Tracks

The smash-hit of 2019 belongs to Lil Nas X for his country mashup ‘Old Town Road.’ But that didn’t stop A Star is Born’s iconic ‘Shallow’ by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper following in hot pursuit in second place. ‘Shallow’ was also the ‘sing-a-long’ anthem of the year, with people following the song’s lyrics more than any other track this year. Lewis Capaldi, Deezer’s NEXT global artist and global chart newcomer, also had a great year. He easily broke into the global top 20 with his track ‘Someone You Loved’.

Podcast Power

‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ continued to reign as the king of English-speaking podcasts. There was also an interesting trend in language tutorial podcasts. Two English tutorial podcasts (‘Espresso English’ and ‘All Ears English’) made it to the overall global top 40.
